DUSHANBE, 01.02.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – The Committee for Environmental Protection reported that in 2023, Tajikistan faced a total of 804 natural disasters, which is 4 more than the previous year. This was announced at a press conference where the results of hydrometeorological observations were presented.
The accuracy of severe weather forecasts during this period was 80%, which is a 6% improvement from 2022. This includes 314 avalanches and 127 mudflows.
In order to protect the country’s economy from natural disasters, 93 warnings were issued for 184 days, covering avalanches, mudflows, heavy rains, strong winds, hail, snow, thunderstorms, high temperatures, air pollution, and reduced visibility in different regions of the country. This is an increase of 34 days compared to the same period in 2022.
