The United Nations Green Climate Fund (GCF) expressed its appreciation on Sunday for South Korea’s decision to contribute an additional $300 million to the fund as part of the country’s efforts to battle climate change.

On Saturday, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared that the nation will assume the role of a “green ladder” to assist countries vulnerable to climate change during the Group of 20 (G20) summit in New Delhi.

“This pledge is a testament to Korea’s dedication to global climate action and confidence in our determination to assist the most vulnerable communities and national ambitions. It sends a strong message to other countries to follow Korea’s example,” said GCF Executive Director Mafalda Duarte in a statement.

South Korea has already donated $100 million in 2013 and $200 million during the 2020-23 fundraising period to the GCF, which is based in Incheon, South Korea and is the world’s largest climate fund.
