The Republics of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Converse on Prospects of Growing Practical Cooperation

A private discussion between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, was held at the Zagulba Residence.

President Mirziyoyev thanked President Aliyev for the invitation and the hospitality offered to the Uzbekistan delegation.

The two leaders discussed the potential of deepening their strategic partnership.

They were pleased with the increased contact between their parliaments, governments, regions, diplomatic services, and research groups.

The trade between the two countries has been progressively increasing in recent years, with the number of joint ventures quadrupling.

Successful examples of their fruitful partnership include the assembly of Uzbek cars, sericulture, and textile clusters in Azerbaijan.

The Business Forum held the day before the visit produced a portfolio of new cooperation projects and trade deals.

The presidents discussed the possibilities of deepening industrial cooperation in the energy, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, urban planning, agriculture, mining, textile, sericulture, pharmaceutical, electrical, and other industries.

They also highlighted the significance of the Uzbekistan – Azerbaijan Investment Company in supporting and promoting joint projects.

Transport and transit were the main focus of the conversation, with the need to increase cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor and develop logistics and port infrastructure being noted.

The presidents discussed the potential of interregional collaboration and organizing regular meetings of the leaders of the two countries’ regions for joint development and promotion of new cooperation projects.

The exchange of cultural and humanitarian activities, the practical implementation of joint educational and scientific programs, and the joint combat against international terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and cybercrime were also discussed.

The two leaders talked about the international and regional agenda and the importance of continuing an intensive dialogue and mutual support within the framework of multilateral structures.
