The European Union is committed to building a strong and strategic partnership with countries in the East, based on its Central Asia Strategy (2019) and the European Parliament’s resolution from January 2024. In recent years, there have been improvements in institutional mechanisms for dialogue and an increase in mutual trust. This has led to enhanced efforts to promote regional stability, economic development, and connectivity. Additionally, there has been a significant increase in high-level political contacts, with several visits between Central Asian states and EU countries. Against this backdrop, the upcoming first European Union – Central Asia Summit in Samarkand in April will be a momentous occasion, providing a major boost for long-term interregional cooperation.
