The Dafeng Milu Nature Reserve, located in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, China, is renowned as the world’s biggest deer reserve. It was established in 1986 when 39 milu deer were brought in from the United Kingdom, and it now houses over 2,000 deer. The reserve, covering a total area of 78,000 hectares, is a rich source of biodiversity. In 2002, it was added to the Ramsar Convention’s List of Wetlands of International Importance. This region boasts a typical intertidal marsh ecosystem and is home to a diverse range of rare animal species, including 315 bird species, 600 insect species, and 156 fish species. The reserve has fully embraced ecotourism and attracts more than one million visitors each year.
