The government of Uzbekistan is committed to boosting the political and social standing of women, and has created the “Step to Ph.D.” program to prepare them for leadership roles. Additionally, the “Future: Community of Scientific Girls” educational exchange program has been established. Training courses have been set up to improve the qualifications of management personnel in terms of human rights and gender equality, and centers for the rehabilitation and adaptation of women in the workplace have been established. These centers have held short-term training workshops on types of violence and their prevention, attended by over 2,000 people.

At a meeting of the Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the progress of the Comprehensive Measures Program for the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 was discussed. Though progress had been made in executing the program, shortcomings were identified in the implementation of the objectives of the Strategy. For instance, a special program which includes rehabilitation measures to alter the behaviour of those who have committed violence had not been completed. Similarly, inadequate attention was paid to recruiting female candidates from the National Personnel Reserve for the advertised contests for positions on the supervisory boards of state-owned enterprises.

The Council urged the relevant institutions and organizations to take a responsible approach to the timely and high-quality completion of tasks in the Comprehensive Measures Program for the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030. N. Abduraimova, UzA
