On August 20, 2023, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov traveled to Hungary for a working visit upon invitation of the Hungarian Prime Minister. This journey was seen as a significant step forward in the development of constructive interstate dialogue, which has been revitalized in recent times.
The presidential aircraft landed at Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest, where the Turkmen leader was welcomed by officials. Prime Minister Viktor Orban then greeted the distinguished guest at the entrance of his residence.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his gratitude for the invitation to attend the celebrations of the World Championship in Athletics in Budapest and the national holiday of Hungary – St. Stephen’s Day. He also conveyed greetings and best wishes from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the head of the Hungarian Government.
At the meeting between the two leaders, energy was identified as a key area of mutual effort. It was noted that Europe is always a priority for Turkmenistan, which is ready to cooperate with foreign partners bilaterally and multilaterally. Transport, industry, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and other industries were also mentioned as promising vectors of cooperation.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Viktor Orban both expressed their commitment to constructive partnership within the framework of the United Nations. They also expressed their confidence in the further successful development of a fruitful interstate dialogue, wishing well-being and prosperity to the peoples of both countries.
In the afternoon, the head of Turkmenistan proceeded to the National Athletics Center to witness the 19th World Championship in Athletics, which brought together more than 2,000 athletes from 200 countries. After the competition, a reception was held in honor of the distinguished guests on the occasion of the National holiday of Hungary – St. Stephen’s Day.
