On Monday, South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co. introduced the Ioniq 5 N, the first all-electric model from the N brand. This model was first revealed at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed in Great Britain in July. It is equipped with an 84 kWh battery pack and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in 3.4 seconds.
The Ioniq 5 N is a new segment of driver-focused high-performance EVs, with advanced cornering and racetrack capabilities as an everyday sportscar. After individual consumption taxes and tax benefits for environment-friendly vehicles, it is priced at 76 million won (US$58,000). On a single charge, it can travel around 350 kilometers.
The Ioniq 5 N combines Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated EV platform, the electric global modular platform (E-GMP), with N’s motorsport-bred technologies. This platform is also used for the Ioniq 6, Ioniq 7, Genesis GV60 SUV, Kia Corp.’s EV6 and EV9 SUVs.
Hyundai Motor is investing 109.4 trillion won by 2032 to become a leader in the global future mobility market, with the goal of selling 1 million pure electric models by 2030. The first EV factory, the 300,000-unit-a-year Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia, the U.S., is under construction and is expected to start operations in the second half of 2024. A second EV-dedicated plant is being built in Korea and is on track to begin production in 2025.
Hyundai Motor sells vehicles under the Hyundai and independent Genesis brands. The N models provide full performance capability to daily driving, while the N Line models feature performance-inspired elements to base model vehicles. The N Line models are located between the high-performance N brand and the general Hyundai brand.
