SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) — GM Korea Co., the South Korean division of General Motors Co., declared on Sunday that they will be offering more vehicles directly to customers starting this month through an online sales platform. This is part of their efforts to increase sales.
The current online selection includes the GM Chevrolet brand’s Bolt EUV and Tahoe SUV, and the GMC brand’s Sierra Denali pickup. GM Korea has now added two more models to the lineup: the Chevy Colorado pickup and Traverse SUV.
“The expansion of the online sales lineup is increasing the accessibility of our products for those in areas without a showroom and those who cannot go to a showroom,” said Gustavo Colossi, Vice President of Vehicle Sales and Services at GM Korea, in a statement.
The Bolt EUV is only available on the online platform, but the other models can be purchased from offline dealerships as well.
From January to August, GM Korea’s vehicle sales rose by 72 percent to 286,727 units compared to 166,745 units in the same period of last year, due to strong exports. Domestic sales increased 5.8 percent to 26,424 in the first eight months from 24,973 in 2020, while exports surged by 84 percent to 260,303 from 141,772.
GM Korea has a two-track strategy, selling domestically produced and imported vehicles in South Korea. Their lineup consists of two locally assembled models, the Trailblazer SUV and the Trax Crossover, and six imported ones — the Colorado pickup, the Bolt all-electric car, and the Equinox, Traverse and Tahoe SUVs, as well as the GMC brand’s Sierra Denali pickup. The Spark mini car, Trax compact SUV and the Malibu midsize sedan were once part of the lineup, but the company discontinued their production last year.
Most of the models currently sold in South Korea are from the Chevrolet brand. The Cadillac brand models are also available. GM Korea plans to add more GMC brand models to their selection, depending on market demand.
