The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, recently visited a 54-hectare orchard in Parkent district to inspect the fresh fruit harvest. The orchard, owned by Meridian Tempo, specializes in exporting sweet cherries, apples, pears, and raspberries, which were imported from France and Spain. These self-pollinating trees ensure high yields and are a key feature of the orchard. To make production more efficient, a modern drip irrigation system has been implemented, using a gravity-fed water supply and solar panels. The harvest from this orchard is expected to include 256 tons of sweet cherries, 500 tons of apples, 480 tons of pears, and 30 tons of raspberries. This method of intensive cultivation is proving to be much more profitable than traditional crops. The President has instructed for the expansion of these methods, adoption of international practices in fruit tree care, and improvement of packaging and preparation for export. The Uzbekistan Agency (UzA) will oversee these efforts.
