A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Center for State Environmental Expertise recently visited the Republic of Korea with the aim of strengthening cooperation with the Korea Environment Institute (KEI) and expanding collaboration on joint projects. These projects include the digitization of environmental impact assessment systems, the enhancement of strategic ecological assessments, and the establishment of a testing laboratory. Furthermore, a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two institutions.
As part of the visit, a seminar was held in South Korea for the delegation from Uzbekistan’s Center for State Environmental Expertise. The focus of the seminar was to develop a roadmap for improving Uzbekistan’s environmental assessment system and enhancing the country’s capabilities in addressing climate change.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Environmental Assessment Group of the Korea Environment Institute and specialists from Uzbekistan’s Center for State Environmental Expertise. This memorandum aims to facilitate increased cooperation within the project concept titled “Strengthening the Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment Systems in Uzbekistan through Technological Upgrades and Implementation of Advanced Monitoring Technologies”, which is supported by KOICA. It also seeks to promote public participation and encourage greater community involvement in environmental decision-making processes, as well as implement pilot projects to reduce the carbon footprint.
