On August 21, 2023, JSC Atomstroyexport (Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation) officially began the main phase of constructing two new VVER-1200 power units of generation 3+. This was made possible after the parties signed the amendments to the contract and Paks II Nuclear Power Plant Ltd., the Hungarian customer, issued the relevant notification.

The contractor, Duna Aszfalt Kft, has started preparations for digging the pit for power unit No. 6, and Bauer Hungary Kft has commenced soil consolidation and building the groundwater cutoff. This work is projected to be finished by the end of fall.

The authorization to move onto the main stage of the project has allowed the production of the main power equipment to start at Russian and partner enterprises. This will lead to the construction of all major buildings and structures, as well as the increase of personnel, machinery, and equipment.

The Paks II NPP project has piqued the interest of Hungarian and European companies, as well as companies from third countries. This will not only provide Hungary with a dependable source of energy, but also bring a multiplicative effect from considerable tax revenues and the creation of new jobs, which is forecasted to be approximately 10 thousand during the construction of the plant. Additionally, the Russian industry will gain a large number of orders for the production of equipment.
