Tashkent was the location for the second gathering of the energy ministers from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.
The importance of the practical results that are expected from the implementation of the project to connect the energy systems of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan was emphasized by Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov, and others.
During the meeting, the “Green Corridor” project, a crucial step towards sustainable energy, was presented. The parties discussed issues related to approving the technical conditions of the preliminary feasibility study for the project, attracting international consultants to study the technical and economic aspects, and developing an interstate agreement for the project.
Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Umid Mamadaminov stated that this project has great potential and is expected to bring significant benefits in all areas.
“A historic agreement was signed between Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan. The project aims to create infrastructure for the sale of electricity produced by solar and wind energy in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Europe. Uzbekistan has a high potential for producing alternative energy, especially in the regions of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, and Bukhara. This makes Europe our main market. We plan to use new technologies to create the necessary infrastructure,” said Mr. Mamadaminov. “The technical conditions for implementing the project have already been developed, and in the future, this project will connect Central Asia and Europe through infrastructure.”
During the event, representatives from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan discussed the possibility of exporting electricity to Georgia and Europe through the Caspian Sea.
Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Orkhan Zeynalov emphasized the importance of cooperation between the parties.
“I would like to highlight the significance of this event, which is a continuation of the meeting held in Baku last November. This project is a logical extension of our other projects to connect the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, as well as other regions in the future. We have reached agreements on this matter and have approved the terms of reference for the project. A joint working group has been formed this month to take practical steps. Work will begin on a draft intergovernmental agreement that will cover all aspects of the project, including commercial, financial, and other obligations of the parties, as well as infrastructure development,” said Mr. Zeynalov.
At the end of the meeting, the parties signed relevant documents for the implementation of the project.
