Renata Shakirova, who was born in Tashkent, has been announced as the new prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre troupe in Saint Petersburg, according to a report by TASS. The audience at the performance of “Shurale” welcomed this news with applause as Shakirova danced the role of the bird girl Syuyumbike. Yuri Fateev, the acting head of the ballet troupe, praised Shakirova’s talent and noted that she had been recognized as a bright young dancer since her days at the Academy of Russian Ballet. Shakirova graduated from the Vaganova Academy in 2015 and has since performed both classical and modern repertoire.
