The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) have teamed up to facilitate a training camp for young hockey players in Asia.
IIHF Vice-President Aivaz Omorkanov visited Tashkent to meet with the Minister of Youth Policy and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Adkham Ikramov and Secretary General of the NOC of Uzbekistan Oybek Kasimov. They discussed ways to further develop hockey in the country.
The meeting was also attended by the Executive Director of the Ice Hockey Federation of Uzbekistan Elbek Makhmudov and officials of the Olympic Council of Asia Tony Tarraf and Wissam Trkmani. The Minister spoke about the work being done to promote a healthy lifestyle and the Olympic movement, in particular, winter sports, as well as the ice palaces built in the capital and the infrastructure created in the regions. Oybek Kasimov discussed the success of the youth hockey team of Uzbekistan at the Asian Championships and the participation of the Humo hockey club in international competitions.
Aivaz Omorkanov expressed his satisfaction with the changes in Uzbekistan and the positive attitude towards hockey. He also expressed confidence that Uzbekistan will host many more international events. The participants discussed plans for further developing winter sports and the Olympic movement in the country.
The guests, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, visited the “Humo Arena” ice complex. The opening ceremony of the training camps for young hockey players in Asia took place here.
The training camps for young hockey players in Asia are being held from 1 to 7 August in Tashkent. Over 100 young hockey players from more than 30 countries of the continent are participating.
