SEOUL, Sept. 15 (Yonhap) — Volvo Cars, a Swedish auto manufacturer, announced Friday that it will be launching its all-electric EX30 SUV in South Korea in November. This will be the fourth electric vehicle in Volvo’s lineup, following the C40 Recharge crossover, XC40 Recharge SUV and EX90 seven-seater SUV.

The EX30 is already available for pre-orders in Europe and the United States, and pre-orders for South Korea will be accepted in November as production of the vehicle begins. It is expected to be available for delivery in global markets in early 2021, and prices and other details will be released at a later date.

Currently, the C40 Recharge and the XC40 Recharge are the two electric models offered by Volvo in South Korea. The company also sells gasoline models such as the S60 and S90 sedans, and the XC40, XC60 and XC90 SUVs.

Volvo sold 14,431 vehicles in South Korea last year and is on track to reach its goal of 17,500 units this year. The EX90 flagship SUV is scheduled to be released in the country next year.

Volvo Cars is aiming to become a fully electric company by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2040. To reach this goal, it plans to introduce seven zero-emission models by 2030.

A company is carbon neutral if it balances the carbon dioxide it releases into the atmosphere through its everyday activities with the amount it absorbs from the atmosphere.

Volvo Cars is the parent firm of Volvo Car Korea. It is 82 percent owned by Geely Automobile Holdings, China’s largest privately owned automotive group.
