On September 20, during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Caretaker Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar held talks. The discussion focused on how to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and develop multifaceted cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, economics, investments, transport, and communications.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the increased mutual trade figures, which rose by 75 percent since the start of the year. Additionally, cargo transportation increased by 50 percent, and 20 new joint ventures were opened. The President of Uzbekistan highlighted the importance of continuing work to create favorable conditions for boosting trade under the Preferential Trade Agreement.
The two leaders also discussed the potential for deepening productive collaboration between the regions of their respective countries and building cooperative ties. They looked into the prospects for implementing joint investment projects in the textile, pharmaceutical, electrical, and tourism industries.
The leaders also discussed matters of regional security, particularly in light of the evolving situation in Afghanistan. They both emphasized the importance of working together to promote the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project.
