On September 18, during his stay in New York City, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the President of the European Council Charles Michel at his residence. Discussions focused on deepening the cooperation between Uzbekistan and Europe, particularly in the political, trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian fields.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relations, noting the successful visits and summits in the “EU-Central Asia” format, the International Conference on Connectivity, and economic forums. Uzbekistan’s trade turnover with EU countries has grown by 35 percent since the start of the year, and various large investment projects have been implemented with European firms, along with significant cultural events.
At the meeting, issues like the early adoption of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, the creation of favorable conditions for increasing mutual trade and investment, and deepening cooperation in the key economic sectors, including through the signing of long-term bilateral documents, were discussed. The President of the European Council Charles Michel highlighted the leading role of the Leader of Uzbekistan in promoting regional cooperation, strengthening relations of trust, good neighborliness, and partnership in Central Asia.
The two leaders also discussed the development of effective international transport corridors, particularly the Trans-Caspian multimodal route, and the current situation in Afghanistan, including the provision of humanitarian aid to its people. Additionally, they looked into the schedule of upcoming multilateral events.
