The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held discussions with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by its President, Odile Renaud-Basso, on June 11. These discussions took place ahead of the third meeting of the Foreign Investors Council. During the meeting, the parties addressed matters related to expanding Uzbekistan’s strategic cooperation with the esteemed international financial institution. The President expressed satisfaction with the growing number of joint projects and noted that the EBRD has already invested over 5.5 billion euros in Uzbekistan. Plans for this year include attracting an additional 1.1 billion euros, with a significant portion going towards supporting the private sector. The successful implementation of the Partnership Strategy and the ongoing transformation of the banking sector with the Bank’s active support were also highlighted. The President stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and outlined key priorities for collaboration, such as modernizing the water supply system, improving energy efficiency, developing the mortgage market, expanding free economic zones, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and promoting women’s entrepreneurship. The parties also discussed public-private partnership projects in education and healthcare, as well as supporting startups focused on artificial intelligence and digital transformation. The upcoming third meeting of the Foreign Investors Council was also on the agenda.
