The Medeu Ski Cluster was visited by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During the visit, the Uzbekistan leader was given a tour of the Medeu dam, built at an altitude of 1,750 meters to protect the area from mudflows. The dam can be reached by the “Stairway to Health”, a set of 842 steps, or by a cable car connecting it to the Shymbulak Ski Resort. The Medeu Sports Complex, built in 1972, is also located at an elevation of 1,700 meters and features a 10,500 square meter ice field that can accommodate up to 3,000 people. It is a popular destination for sports, tourism, and cultural events, attracting over 400,000 people each year. The complex has hosted various sporting competitions, public ice skating sessions, and cultural festivals. Notably, it was a venue for the 7th Asian Winter Games in 2011 and the Winter Universiade in 2017. During their visit, the two presidents also enjoyed a performance by young figure skaters.
