On September 29th, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the Federal Republic of Germany gathered at the first “Central Asia – Germany” Summit in Berlin to look into the current state of bilateral relations and the potential for more collaboration.
The two leaders concentrated on growing the business relationship, as well as on reinforcing ties in the economic, investment, transport, energy and other fields. It was highlighted that the President’s official trip to Berlin earlier this year gave a fresh impetus to the intensification of relations between the two countries.
It was noted that the indicators of trade turnover and industrial collaboration have doubled since then, with many prominent German companies such as Volkswagen, MAN, CLAAS, Siemens, Linde, Aurubis, Henkel, Knauf, Papenburg, Deutsche Kabel and others successfully operating in Uzbekistan. Furthermore, new projects have been launched in the mining, energy, chemical, electrical, textile and infrastructure sectors.
President Mirziyoyev proposed a number of initiatives for organizing joint economic events, developing alternative energy, digitalizing agriculture and water resources management, deepening the processing of raw materials, increasing financial instruments, intensifying the connections between the regions of both countries, and collaborating in migration and mobility.
The parties agreed to promote cultural and humanitarian exchanges and to implement joint programs in science and education. They also exchanged views on regional security, including the situation in Afghanistan.
At the end of the talks, President Mirziyoyev extended an invitation to Federal Chancellor Scholz to visit Uzbekistan.
