On November 17, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev journeyed to the Youth Industrial and Entrepreneurial Zone in Termez, which was established in accordance with the Head of State’s decree of April 21, 2021. The zone, spanning an area of 2 hectares, is home to 42 projects in the building materials, chemicals and petrochemicals, furniture production, food, and textile industries. People can purchase premises and equipment and set up production using preferential loans from commercial banks through the Young Entrepreneurs Support Fund. When all the businesses are operational, the zone will be able to employ over 500 people.

The President checked out the products of the businesses in the zone. One of them produces pomegranate juice and exports to neighboring countries. Another enterprise established the production of clothing and carpets and employed women.

The Head of state stressed the need to create such industrial zones in every district of the region, as well as to expand handicraft and home-based activities in mahallas. Taking into account two years of experience, an instruction was given to adopt a program for developing youth entrepreneurship in Surkhandarya and to develop proposals to attract $50 million for its implementation.

President Mirziyoyev remarked that the current young entrepreneurs are the Fruits of New Uzbekistan, having new knowledge and approaches. He noted that industrial zones must be handed over to the youth, as this will be a ready-made “project factory” for districts, and responsible persons should only help businesses innovate and enter the market. The main focus should be on cost, quality, and competition.”

The President also gave an instruction to develop a draft resolution involving Surkhandarya youth in sports and to allocate up to 30 billion UZS for these purposes. A kayaking and canoeing base will be organized at the Uchqizil reservoir.

Local industrial products and investment projects were also presented. 82 investment projects worth 4 billion 600 million USD are being implemented in Surkhandarya region. Of this, $4 billion is foreign direct investment. These projects will produce value-added goods and create thousands of jobs in energy, chemicals, mining, construction, textiles, and other industries.
