The Republic of Uzbekistan is currently hosting the 61st Convention of the World Boxing Council (WBC). High-ranking officials such as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan O. Ramatov, Vice-President of the Olympic Council of Asia O. Umarov, WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, Minister of Youth Policy and Sports A. Ikramov, and Chairman of the Trade Unions Federation of Uzbekistan K. Rafikov all attended the opening ceremony.
Delegates from 100 countries, professional boxers, and representatives of promotion companies, including Evander Holyfield, Julio César Chávez, Konstantin Tszyu, Oleksandr Usik, Vasiliy Lomachenko, and Amir Khan, have all gathered in Tashkent.
The Convention serves as an opportunity to review the past year’s successes and to set goals for the future. This particular event is of great historical importance, as it covers topics like education, doping, refereeing, international relations, boxing rules, ratings, championship belts, and charity and public initiatives.
Attendees of the Convention will have the chance to visit the ancient city of Samarkand. Professional boxing stars will also be giving master classes for young boxers. On November 17, the Humo Arena will be hosting a professional boxing evening, organized by the Uzbekistan promotion company LIFT. The main fight will be between super heavyweights Bakhodir Jalolov and Chris Thompson from South Africa. Abdumalik Khalakov, Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov, Mujibillo Tursunov, and Kudratillo Abdukahharov will also be participating in the event. Mike Tyson is expected to arrive in Tashkent on November 16.
