SEOUL, Oct. 3 (Yonhap) — The heads of South Korea’s and Japan’s financial regulators have decided to revive their regular “shuttle meetings” in a bid to enhance financial cooperation between the two countries, according to an announcement made by officials on Tuesday.
Kim Joo-hyun, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) in Seoul, and Teruhisa Kurita, Commissioner of the Financial Services Agency (FSA) in Tokyo, issued a joint statement following their meeting in Tokyo earlier that day. The two agencies will reconvene in Seoul on Dec. 19-20 for the first time since 2016.
During the meeting, Kim and Kurita agreed that the FSC and the FSA should share their experiences and opinions on topics of mutual interest, such as climate change and the digitalization of financial services. The two also discussed potential ways to deepen cooperation between the two agencies to ensure financial stability and bolster the financial markets of both countries.
Kim is currently in Japan for the Japan Weeks event, hosted by the Japanese government and other relevant agencies, to promote the nation’s financial market and policies.
