Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Qu Dongyu Discuss Priorities of Strategic Partnership between Uzbekistan and FAO

On September 7, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu, who arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the International Conference on Food Security.

The Leader of Uzbekistan congratulated the esteemed guest on his re-election to the post of head of the foremost specialized agency of the United Nations and thanked him for his support and personal participation in the gathering that is taking place in Samarkand these days.

The FAO Director-General congratulated the President of Uzbekistan on the successful realization of the initiative and the organization of an international forum on the current global agenda at the highest level.

The two exchanged views on counteracting modern challenges and threats to food security, including at the regional level.

Inequalities in the development of the agricultural sector, lack of water resources, lengthy and inefficient value chains, failures in logistics, and other issues were identified as the primary risks of sustainable development.

An agreement was reached to incorporate joint measures to modernize agriculture based on scientific research and innovation, digitalization of the agricultural sector, the implementation of effective financial support tools, and the introduction of effective mechanisms for managing the agri-food system in the new 2030 Cooperation Program between Uzbekistan and FAO.
