A special ceremony was held to commemorate the inclusion of a selection of secondary schools in Turkmenistan into the UNESCO Associated Schools network. During this event, the Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Turkmenistan, Dmitriy Shlapachenko, bestowed international certificates to the directors of the chosen institutions.
The honored schools are: Specialized Secondary School № 140 in Ashgabat, which focuses on foreign languages, mathematics, and natural sciences; Secondary School № 19 in Kaka Etrap, Ahal Velayat; Specialized Secondary School № 21 in Balkanabat, Balkan Velayat, which specializes in natural sciences; Specialized Secondary School № 26 in Dashoguz, Dashoguz Velayat, which focuses on English, chemistry, and biology; Specialized Secondary School № 30 in Turkmenabat, Lebap Velayat, which specializes in foreign languages; and Secondary School № 24 for gifted children in Mary, Mary Velayat.
The UNESCO Associated Schools project was initiated in 1953 and works to spread peace and humanistic values by connecting educational institutions from around the world.
