BERLIN, Aug. 31 (Yonhap) — At the IFA tech trade show in Berlin, Samsung Electronics Co. unveiled their vision for the future of living: a fully connected home and an eco-friendly lifestyle. On Thursday, one day before the official opening of the 99th edition of the IFA consumer electrics fair, Samsung showcased their latest products and innovations designed to facilitate sustainable and smart living.

At City Cube Berlin, the 6,026-square-meter standalone exhibition center inside the Messe Berlin Exhibition Grounds, hundreds of journalists, industry officials, and partners attended Samsung’s press conference, which was opened with a keynote speech by Benjamin Braun, Samsung’s chief marketing officer for Europe, under the banner of “Connection that Matters.” Braun stated, “We have for you over 200 absolutely amazing products on show behind here today because innovation must never stop.” He went on to say that 70 percent of those surveyed were excited about the innovations in smart home living and how they can make their lives more enjoyable.

Samsung’s catchphrase, “Do the SmartThings,” was present throughout the City Cube Berlin venue, and the company estimated that more than 280 million people were using the SmartThings home control and automation platform. Samsung highlighted how the SmartThings system is beneficial for users in living a smarter life and reducing their environmental impact.

In addition, Samsung said that all new products released in the next year will be wifi-enabled to unlock the full potential of a truly connected home. Last year, the South Korean tech giant announced that they would achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, and at the press conference, Samsung reported that they had reduced carbon emissions in their product use phase by over 900,000 tons and 31 percent of their operations have been running on renewable energy since 2021.

The SmartThings Energy’s AI Energy mode will also be more widely available around the world, so that consumers can take more active actions on their energy use and reduce utility bills. Samsung said that this mode’s AI system on home appliances, like washing machines, fridges and TVs, helps users save up to 70 percent of energy on select cycles.

To further progress their smarter home campaign, Samsung is working to support the smart home standard Matter to unify the fragmented consumer appliances market and enhance their interoperability regardless of manufacturer.
