On May 17, 2024, Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, visited Rogun, Tajikistan to observe the progress of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant (HPP). She described the project as a tremendous opportunity to transform the economy of Tajikistan and the region as a whole. Georgieva also expressed her admiration for the work being done at the HPP and emphasized its potential to provide low-cost green energy for the people and businesses. She commended the President, Government, and people of Tajikistan for their efforts in developing the project and expressed her hope that the HPP will soon reach its full capacity. As a global citizen, Georgieva stressed the importance of green energy for the future of the world economy and pledged the support of the IMF in promoting the country’s macroeconomic performance and attracting investors.
