Protect Teachers from High-Handed Parents (Editorial from Korea JoongAng Daily on July 25)

Teachers have been facing numerous issues due to the high-handed attitude of some parents. Complaints from instructors include a student’s parents suing them for child abuse after they instructed the student to bring a material to class, and another parent asking a teacher to give their daughter a morning call to attend an online class. This kind of behavior has been on the rise and has caused a number of teachers to apply for early retirement. The government and People Power Party are attempting to revise the law on the advancement of the status of primary, middle and high school teachers so that a teacher’s legitimate instruction cannot be seen as an infringement on students’ rights unless it is critically flawed. It is essential that the majority Democratic Party works to pass this revision in order to protect teachers from the domineering attitude of some parents.
