On the occasion of the upcoming holy Ramadan Hayit, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has signed a Decree titled “On the Pardon of a Group of Individuals Serving Sentences of Imprisonment, Who Have Sincerely Repented and Are Committed to Rehabilitation.” According to paragraph 23 of Article 109 of the Constitution of Uzbekistan, this Decree pardons 488 citizens who have sincerely repented and are dedicated to correcting their actions.
Out of the pardoned individuals, 100 have been completely released from their main sentence, 268 have been granted parole, and the punishment for 34 individuals has been reduced. Additionally, the prison terms for 86 individuals have been shortened.
The pardoned group includes 17 foreign citizens, 37 women, 37 men over the age of 60, 167 individuals under the age of 30 (including one minor), and 5 people who were involved in prohibited organizations.
The Decree also instructs relevant ministries and agencies to assist the pardoned individuals in returning to their families and reintegrating into society by providing support for social adaptation, employment, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
