Deputy Head of the Service for Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, Nurmat Otabekov, has provided information about the current situation in Uzbekistan in regards to the spread of the new strain. He stated that “in preparation for the autumn and winter months, hospital beds and a reserve of medicines have been prepared”. Furthermore, 2 million 100 thousand doses of influenza vaccine have been imported and distributed in Uzbekistan, and vaccination of the more vulnerable members of the population has started.
Otabekov also declared that “100 percent of the viruses recorded in Uzbekistan are the Omicron strain. The Pyrola strain has not been recorded.” He continued by saying that before the onset of the disease, which is expected to occur in November, they will be “building up the level of immunity in the more vulnerable part of the population”.
