Kokand anticipates visitors to its International Handicrafts Festival at Urda Square

The Second International Handicrafts Festival is due to take place in Kokand on September 21-23 this year. The main festivities are to be held in Urda Square, and the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the city of Tashkent, and the regions have all started to prepare to showcase their folk art products.

People from Bukhara region are particularly busy making preparations for the event. They have crafted symbols of Bukhara – the Kalon and Chor-Minor minarets – to draw attention to their work. Engravers, minters, gold embroiderers, and skull cap makers will also be exhibiting their creations. The Shoshmaqom ensemble and folklore groups are set to entertain the festival’s guests with their performances. An estimated 200 artisans from 80 countries and over 1,000 from the regions of Uzbekistan are expected to partake.

Furthermore, the International Handicrafts Museum in Khukandi Latif, the world city of artisans, is due to open, where displays from all over the world will be presented. At present, the State Museum of History and Culture of Fergana Region is in charge of organizing the museum’s exhibition, as per the Government’s decree.
