The city of Kokand is renowned for its masterful craftsmanship. Each home is a testament to the skill of its inhabitants, and Khasan Umarov is no exception. He has set up a school to teach the art of knife-making, and his workshop is often filled with eager students.

Mr. Umarov is dedicated to producing traditional handicrafts from local materials. He has revived the ancient technique of forging Damascus steel, which is used to make knives, axes, spears, bows, and other historic metal tools. He has also crafted a variety of knives to the level of art.

The master and his apprentices are preparing to showcase their work at the International Crafts Festival, to be held in Kokand on September 21-23.
