Khiva Hosts International Ethnosport Festival for the First Time

Uzbekistan is in the spotlight as the International Ethnosport Festival takes place in Khorezm region. Extensive preparations have been made for the three-day event, which will feature representatives from UNESCO, TURKSOY, the World Ethnosport Confederation and its member states, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and 1,900 athletes from 63 countries.

Competitions in belt wrestling, Uzbek martial art, world championships in mas-wrestling, weight lifting, an international Open Archery Tournament, national wrestling, triathlon, bird hunting, equestrian sports, various exhibitions, and a pilaf championship will be held, as well as a melon festival and skilled chefs. The motto of the World Ethnosport Confederation “Bound by Heritage, United by Ethnosports” will be upheld as an Ethnosport Summit and a meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Ethnosport Confederation take place.

Visitors from Türkiye, Mongolia, Slovakia, Russia, Australia, Azerbaijan, South Korea, India, Egypt, Poland, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Iran, Pakistan, Israel, France, Georgia, Zimbabwe, Lithuania, Romania, United States, Hungary, Tunisia, Italy, Thailand, Armenia, Jordan, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Austria, England, Argentina, Belarus, Bulgaria, UAE, Algeria, Brazil, Greece, and other countries will be present.

At a press conference, the Minister of Youth Policy and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Adham Ikramov, the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farid Gayibov and the Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin discussed the festival’s goals of promoting national sports, developing tourism, and fostering international relations.
