General Motors Korea Co., the South Korean branch of General Motors Co., reported a 50% jump in sales in September compared to the same period in the previous year. The surge is attributed to the strong performance of recreational vehicle exports.

In total, the company sold 36,544 vehicles last month, compared to 24,422 units a year before. Domestic sales, however, fell 34% to 2,632 units, while exports rose 66% to 33,912.

From January to September, GM Korea’s sales increased 69%, reaching 323,319 automobiles. Domestic sales decreased slightly by 0.7%, while exports grew 81%.

GM Korea’s current lineup includes two locally assembled models, the Trailblazer SUV and the Trax Crossover, as well as six imported vehicles – the Colorado pickup, the Bolt all-electric car, and the Equinox, Traverse and Tahoe SUVs, plus the GMC brand’s Sierra Denali pickup. The Spark mini car, Trax compact SUV, and the Malibu midsize sedan were previously part of the lineup, but production of these models ceased last year.

Most of the models sold in South Korea are from the Chevrolet brand, while Cadillac brand models are also available. GM Korea plans to add more GMC brand models to the lineup, depending on the market demand.
