In the mountainous area of Sherabad district of Surkhandarya region, Uzbekistan, there is a lake called Khomkon Lake that has a past going back centuries. This lake spans 50 hectares and is approximately 45-50 meters deep. According to the locals, this area was once known for its salt mines, which were used to transport salt to both Uzbek and Turkmen areas. As the salt reserves were depleted, a cavity was formed, water began to seep out, and eventually, a lake was formed.
Nowadays, livestock breeders come from nearby places to graze their animals and set up temporary dwellings, such as yurts.
