The South Korean Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has announced a 500 million won (US$384,000) penalty against Ahn-Gook Pharmaceutical Co. for offering illegal rebates to doctors between 2011 and 2018. The firm had given out 6.2 billion won in cash and 2.7 billion worth of gifts such as laptops and vacuum cleaners to hospitals. The FTC said this kind of behavior disrupts the national health insurance system and leads to higher drug prices. It added that it will continue to work with other organizations to ensure fair competition in the pharmaceutical market.
