At a meeting with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), First Deputy Minister of Transport Mamanbiy Omarov discussed the Electric Vehicle Program and its financing, which is supported by the Green Climate Fund. The allocated funds of $170 million will be used to promote the use of electric vehicles in seven countries, including Uzbekistan. The money will be split between grants ($65 million) and loan financing ($105 million).
The funds will be used to eliminate any obstacles to the widespread adoption of commercial electric vehicles, as well as to introduce a fleet of electric buses and supporting infrastructure and upgrade the public transport system.
The program is comprised of four core areas that will support the government’s policy to develop the sector.
