Fitrat was a renowned educator, politician, and leader of the Jadid movement who played a significant role in the development of modern Uzbek literature in the 20th century. He also made important contributions to the development of the Uzbek and Turkic languages through his literary and linguistic pursuits. In 1921, Fitrat established the Oriental Music School and served as its first director, inviting renowned musicians and musicologists such as Viktor Alexandrovich Uspensky. He also oversaw the collection and recording of the shashmaqom melody, with the help of Ata Jalol and Ata Giyas Bukhara, which was later released by B. Uspensky. Additionally, Fitrat was a key figure in sending students from Bukhara to Germany. To honor his legacy, the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan has decided to launch a media project titled “Fitrat – Master of Oriental Music” as part of the exhibition “Uzbekistan in the 20th century”. This project aims to highlight Fitrat’s contributions and achievements. Nazokat Usmanova, UzA.
