The 8th World Cotton Research Conference (WCRC-8) is currently taking place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The progress made in Uzbekistan’s agriculture, specifically in cotton production and processing, has been recognized. The state’s decision to eliminate the state order for cotton, change the principle of the free market, and implement a cluster system is a testament to this progress. This is the first time that Uzbekistan is hosting such a prestigious conference, which includes several important events.
According to the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ibrohim Abdurakhmanov, the country joined the International Cotton Advisory Committee in 1998, a notable organization that monitors global cotton production. In recent years, there has been a focus on utilizing digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the field, with the aim of studying and analyzing the best practices and testing new methods. The conference also includes a tradition of awarding specialists who have made significant contributions to the development of cotton production. This includes the “Researcher of the Year” award, which is recommended by an expert council. At this year’s event, two scientists from Uzbekistan were honored with this award.
The WCRC-8 program includes presentations from renowned scientists and experts in the field of cotton production and processing, as well as discussions on various topics. These include reports on the latest achievements and technologies in the cotton and textile industries, as well as exchanging experiences. The conference will also address regional issues related to the negative impact of climate change on cotton production and will develop recommendations for solving these problems.
Special presentations will also be given, showcasing the latest achievements and advanced technologies in the field to the international community. Over 430 foreign scientists, 200 local scientists, and representatives from 177 cotton and textile clusters and enterprises have gathered to participate in these events.
During the conference, experts will discuss important topics such as climate change, water conservation, and pest control, and will develop adaptive solutions for local conditions. The conference will also introduce innovations in cotton cleaning and textile processing.
