The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sodiq Safoyev, met with a delegation led by Akihisa Nagashima, the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan. During the meeting, they discussed the strong friendship and strategic partnership between Japan and Uzbekistan. Akihisa Nagashima praised the positive and diverse changes resulting from Uzbekistan’s accelerated reforms, highlighting the country’s internationally recognized open and pragmatic foreign policy. They also noted that under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, long-standing issues in Central Asia are being addressed and neighborly relations are being strengthened. The discussion also touched on advancing initiatives within the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue and preparations for an international summit. Friendship groups within the framework of interparliamentary cooperation, exchange of legislative experience, and the importance of strengthening parliamentary dialogue at all levels were also topics of discussion.
