The Sahel and Lake Chad Basin Donors’ Conference to Assist Displaced Persons and Refugees was held at the headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah. The event received support from the Government of Saudi Arabia, OIC, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Representatives from various countries and international and non-governmental organizations gathered for the conference, including Uzbekistan’s embassy in Saudi Arabia. The participants addressed the dire humanitarian situation in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin, which has affected 33 million people, including 11 million displaced persons and refugees, for over a decade. The crisis is compounded by environmental issues, requiring immediate and long-term solutions. Special focus was given to securing financial resources for projects aimed at improving living conditions, rebuilding infrastructure, and increasing access to healthcare and education. The participants expressed their commitment to actively supporting these initiatives and working together to create a secure and stable future for the region’s population.
