In the past few years, Uzbekistan has seen a rise in cherry plantations. Cherries are now the fifth most exported agricultural product from the country, cultivated on more than 337,000 hectares.
Data from the Statistics Agency revealed that from January to May 2023, Uzbekistan shipped 32.8 thousand tons of sweet cherries to fifteen countries for a total of $38.9 million. This is a 14.4 thousand ton increase compared to the same period last year.
The majority of exports went to Russia, with 19.8 thousand tons, followed by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, UAE, China, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia.
The Chinese market is the most promising for exporting cherries, as it is the largest in the world, with an average import volume of $1.4 billion.
