A momentous event took place in New York as Uzbekistan and Somalia signed a joint communique to establish diplomatic relations. The document was signed by Ulugbek Lapasov, Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Abukar Dahir Osman, his Somali counterpart.
The two parties expressed their intention to strengthen collaboration within international organizations, including the United Nations and its specialized agencies. They also agreed to intensify bilateral communication in order to identify mutually beneficial areas of cooperation in the political, trade, economic, and cultural spheres.
This historic signing marks a significant stride in Uzbekistan’s partnership with African nations. With the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Somalia, Uzbekistan now has ties with 157 countries.
In 2024, Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations with 12 countries across Africa, America, and Europe, demonstrating its active foreign policy and commitment to expanding international cooperation.
