A conference titled “Strengthening the principles of social justice in Uzbekistan through the harmonization of employment and social protection” was held in Tashkent. The attendees included the Chairperson of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Chairperson of the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Persons and Decent Work Tanzila Narbayeva, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization Gilbert Houngbo, representatives from various ministries, agencies, NGOs, and the diplomatic corps.
Mrs. Narbayeva highlighted that the conference was a significant step towards enhancing social justice, promoting employment and social protection for the population, strengthening human rights, reducing inequality and poverty, and improving policies in these areas.
Gilbert Houngbo, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization, commended Uzbekistan for its remarkable progress in eliminating forced and child labor, which has become a model for other countries. He also acknowledged the comprehensive reforms initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and supported by social partners.
The event emphasized the importance of protecting human rights, creating decent jobs, ensuring employment for the population, and strengthening social protection as key components of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy. Panel sessions were also held on topics such as “The current state of labor standards and rights” and “Financing decent jobs for the transition to a green economy.”
At the end of the conference, a resolution was adopted.
