The Great Silk Road’s Zarafshan-Qoraqum Corridor has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List

At the 45th extended session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 10 to 25 September, the Zarafshan-Qoraqum Corridor of the Great Silk Road was added to the list. This was reported by the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The “Silk Road. The Zarafshan-Qoraqum Corridor” is composed of 31 sites located in three countries – Tajikistan (9 sites), Uzbekistan (15 sites) and Turkmenistan (7 sites). All of these sites from different periods are situated along one of the most significant trade routes in history – the Silk Road, and demonstrate a long history and rich cultural and historical heritage.

Uzbekistan acted as the project coordinator in order to present the nomination “Zarafshan-Qoraqum Corridor of the Great Silk Road”.
