During the meeting, the Speaker discussed the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, as well as the recent elections held on October 27. The Secretary General of the CIS, Sergey Lebedev, and the Deputy President of the Senate of the Malaysian Parliament, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, were among the guests.
Mr. Lebedev expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and praised the organization and conduct of the elections, which were observed by 167 international observers from eight CIS countries. He also commended the efforts made to ensure equal access to voting for all citizens, including those with disabilities.
The Speaker also had a separate meeting with the Deputy President of the Senate of the Malaysian Parliament, during which Mr. Nur Jazlan Mohamed expressed his appreciation for the invitation to observe the elections and praised the positive changes taking place in Uzbekistan. He specifically noted the progress made in the development of the regions and the implementation of a mixed electoral system in accordance with the renewed Constitution and new legislation. He also highlighted the significant representation of women in the candidate pool, as required by the Election Code.
