Since the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation in 2018, the program has provided targeted support in crucial areas such as gender equality, legislative improvement, legal education, and creating an enabling environment for civil society. USAID’s Deputy Mission Director in Uzbekistan, Edward Michalski, expressed gratitude to the Government and national counterparts for their dedicated collaboration in achieving these results. The Legal Reform Program has achieved significant milestones, including the development of Uzbekistan’s first gender equality law and the revision of nearly 30 draft laws. It has also empowered legal institutions and provided free legal aid to over 900,000 individuals from vulnerable groups. The program has also modernized legal education and made justice more accessible to all citizens, while promoting gender equality and eradicating violence against women. Through this program, USAID has left a lasting legacy of sustainable resources and advancements in legal education that will continue to benefit professionals in various fields.
