The Regional Conference for Central Asia in Astana is being attended by the Uzbekistan delegation, which includes representatives from the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and JSC Uzkimyosanoat. The conference, which focuses on UN Security Council Resolution 1540 and industry, is being held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

During the conference, participants are discussing the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 and sharing their experiences in export control of dual-use goods. Otabek Kasimov, the chief specialist from the Department of Radiation and Nuclear Safety of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety, is serving as the National Contact Point for the Republic of Uzbekistan on UN Security Council Resolution 1540. In his presentation, he provided information on the legislation and progress in fulfilling international obligations in chemical, biological, radiation, and nuclear safety.

UN Security Council Resolution 1540, adopted in 2004, requires all states to adopt and enforce appropriate laws and take effective measures to prevent the proliferation of weapons and means of delivery to non-state actors, particularly for terrorist purposes.

The Regional Conference for Central Asia on UN Security Council Resolution 1540 and industry is organized by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs in collaboration with the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control of Germany (BAFA).

During the conference, the Uzbekistan delegation proposed hosting the next regional conference in Tashkent next year.
