On July 9, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, welcomed the Director-General of the International Labour Organization, Gilbert Houngbo, who was on a working visit to Uzbekistan.
The meeting focused on ways to further strengthen cooperation with this influential UN institution.
The ILO Director-General expressed sincere appreciation for the warm reception and praised Uzbekistan’s progress in protecting workers’ rights, creating jobs, and implementing international conventions.
He described his visit as a show of support for the ongoing effective reforms led by the President of Uzbekistan.
The ILO also considers Uzbekistan’s experience in this field as a successful model for international study and application, as evidenced by Uzbekistan’s election to the organization’s Administrative Council in June of this year.
In recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ILO has reached a new level of quality. With the organization’s assistance, Uzbekistan has adopted more than 40 labor regulations and ratified 22 international conventions.
The importance of joint efforts to promote social justice, including through the Global Coalition for Social Justice, was also highlighted.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to develop and adopt a new Country Program for 2026-2030.
